Participou nos estudos pan-Europeus: Consumer Attitudes to Food Nutrition and Health (1997), Consumer Attitudes to Health, Weight and Physical Activity (1999), HealthSense – Healthy Ageing: how changes in sensory, physiology, sensory psychology and socio-cognitive factors influence food choice (2000), Senior Food Quality: choosing foods, eating meals: sustaining independence and quality of life in older people (2005). Atualmente participa nos projetos Eeagrants, Nutrition UP 65 (http://nutritionup65.up.pt/) e Pronutisenior (http://pronutrisenior.com/pt/)

Autora de publicações diversas na área da nutrição no envelhecimento, determinantes do consumo alimentar, nutrição e saúde publica, e hábitos alimentares e alimentação coletiva e gestão.

Membro do Conselho Científico Multidisciplinar da Direção da Sociedade Portuguesa de Geriatria e Gerontologia desde 2012.

Author of several publications in the field of nutrition in aging, determinants of food consumption, nutrition and public health, eating habits and food service management.

Associate Professor Catia Martins
Department of Nutrition Sciences, University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL, USA

Dr. Martins has a first degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Porto University (Portugal), a M.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition from Roehampton University (UK) and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Medicine from Surrey University (UK). She worked at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology from 2008 to 2021, where she held a Full Professorship position in Obesity and Metabolism since 2019. In 2022 she took an Associate Professor position at the department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Alabama at Birmingham in the U.S.

Prof. Martins’ research focuses on the impact of weight loss, induced by diet, exercise or bariatric surgery, on energy metabolism and appetite control. Her group has shown that the increased drive to eat and reduced energy expenditure seen in the reduced-obese state are a normalization towards a lower body weight and not drivers of relapse.

Catarina Simões é licenciada em Ciências da Nutrição pela Faculdade de Ciências da Nutrição e Alimentação da Universidade do Porto (2007), e doutorada em Biotecnologia pela Universidade de Helsínquia (2014). Atualmente é Professora Auxiliar na Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Fernando Pessoa e Coordenadora Adjunta da Licenciatura em Ciências da Nutrição. É investigadora do CIBIO-Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos da Universidade do Porto. Os seus interesses de pesquisa incluem microbiologia alimentar, segurança e qualidade alimentar e composição da microbiota intestinal.

Catarina Simões graduated in Nutritional Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto in 2007, and completed her Ph.D. in Biotechnology at the University of Helsinki in 2014. She is currently an Assistant professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University Fernando Pessoa and Adjunct Coordinator of the BSc. in Nutrition Sciences. She is also a Researcher at CIBIO-Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources of the University of Porto. Her research interests include food microbiology, food safety and quality, and microbiota composition.

Carla Lopes, Nutritionist, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and Coordinator of the PhD programme in Public Health, University of Porto Medical School (FMUP); Coordinator of the doctoral program in Public Health at FMUP; She was a member of the Pedagogical Council (2010-2022) and is currently a member of the Scientific Council of FMUP. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of European Schools of Public Health (ASPHER).

She is a Researcher at the Epidemiology Research Unit of the Institute of Public Health at the University of Porto (EPIUnit-ISPUP) and an integrated member of the Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR), where she coordinates the line “Life course research and healthy ageing” and the research group on “Nutrition and cardiometabolic health”.

Member of the “Comissão Instaladora” (2011-2012) and President of the General Council of Nutritionists in Portugal (2016-2019), and is currently President of the Specialty Council in Community Nutrition and Public Health.
