Ana Rito é Nutricionista licenciada pela FCNAUP, Doutorada em Saúde Publica (FIOCRUZ & Universidade Nova de Lisboa) e Mestre em Medical Sciences-Human Nutrition pela Universidade de Sheffield /UK, possuindo formação avançada em “Metodologias de Investigação na Saúde” -Harvard School of Public Health/USA; em “Project Management in Global Health” – University of Washinghton/USA e 2 Post Docs em Obesidade Infantil e Epidemiologia nutricional.
É Investigadora no Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge e Coordenadora do Centro Colaborativo de Nutrição e Obesidade Infantil da Organização Mundial da Saúde (INSA). É ainda Presidente da Direção do Centro de Investigação CEIDSS. Desde 2007, é a investigadora principal do Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative – World Health Organization / Europe (COSI) em Portugal e membro do seu Conselho Consultivo Europeu.
De 2007 a 2010 foi vice-presidente da Plataforma contra a Obesidade da Direção Geral da Saúde. Na Direção do CEIDSS desde 2012, Ana Rito tem vindo a coordenar Programas Nacionais de abordagem de obesidade infantil de âmbito municipal como o premiado POZ, o programa (continuo) MUN-SI e como principal parceiro da ARS Lisboa e Vale do Tejo no Eat Mediterranean (financiado pelas EEA Grants). Neste âmbito já acolheu mais de 50 Estagiários à Ordem dos Nutricionistas, bem como outros profissionais nacionais e internacionais já que a maioria destes programas estão inseridos em projetos da União Europeia, tendo trabalhado até agora com 16 municipios portugueses e desenvolvido colaboração científica com mais de 30 instituições internacionais.
Foi ainda docente e posteriormente Coordenadora da Licenciatura em Ciências da Nutrição da Universidade Atlântica (2005-2014) tendo colaborado como docente e/ou Investigadora ou consultora em outras Universidades em nível nacional (Universidade de Lisboa e Universidade Lusófona) e internacional (Metropol University, Copenhagen Business School ).
É igualmente Membro em vários Grupos e Redes Europeias como a “European Network on Reducing marketing pressure on children” e “Methodological Competence Platform (MCP) for harmonized NCD surveillance” da OMS/Europa; do “Nutrition Group” da EASO, do “EIT Food Consumer Advisory Board” da União Euopeia e ainda do “Independent Strategic Advisory Board of the Obesity Institute” da Leeds Beckett University. Desde 2008 que representou Portugal em varias Comitivas Europeias e da OMS. Foi presidente da Conferência Internacional da Obesidade Infantil (CIOI 2005,2011 e 2017), contando já com inúmeras publicações científicas internacionais e várias centenas de comunicações orais.

She is a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge and Coordinator of the Collaborative Center for Child Nutrition and Obesity of the World Health Organization (INSA). She is also President of the Board of the CEIDSS Research Centre. Since 2007, she has been the Principal Investigator of the Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative – World Health Organization / Europe (COSI) in Portugal and a member of its European Advisory Board.
From 2007 to 2010 she was vice-president of the Platform against Obesity of the General Directorate of Health. As Director of CEIDSS since 2012, Ana Rito has been coordinating National Programs to address childhood obesity at municipal level such as the award-winning POZ, the (continuous) MUN-SI program and as the main partner of ARS Lisboa and Vale do Tejo in Eat Mediterranean (funded by EEA Grants). In this context, it has already hosted more than 50 Trainees from the Order of Nutritionists, as well as other national and international professionals, since most of these programs are part of European Union projects, having worked so far with 16 Portuguese municipalities and developed scientific collaboration with more than 30 international institutions.
She was also a teacher and later Coordinator of the Degree in Nutrition Sciences at Universidade Atlântica (2005-2014) having collaborated as a teacher and/or Researcher or consultant in other Universities at national level (University of Lisbon and Lusófona University) and internationally (Metropol University, Copenhagen Business School).
It is also a Member of several European Groups and Networks such as the “European Network on Reducing marketing pressure on children” and the “Methodological Competence Platform (MCP) for harmonized NCD surveillance” of WHO/Europe; of the “Nutrition Group” of EASO, of the “EIT Food Consumer Advisory Board” of the European Union and also of the “Independent Strategic Advisory Board of the Obesity Institute” of Leeds Beckett University. Since 2008 he has represented Portugal in several European and WHO delegations. He was president of the International Conference on Childhood Obesity (CIOI 2005 ,2011 and 2017), with numerous international scientific publications and several hundred oral communications.
